General Index to Gallery Era Pages

The photographic images of Reliving History includes more than 3,300 photographs which range from late 2003 to the present. Most are taken from Southern California events and more than half of the images are from Civil War re-enactments. The photographic gallery contains five major areas: Civil War, Middle Ages, Miscellanea, Mexican American War and Timeline events.

There is also an Event Index which is a companion page to this Gallery Index. The Event Index lists each event that has been photographed since 2003. Using both indices will enable navigation through the “eras”, years and places.

Gallery Front

  • This will take you to the front of the Reliving History Photo Gallery. You will see the five major “eras.” Click on any one of them and you will be transported into that section.

Civil War: Page 1, Page 2, Page 3

  • The American Civil War “officially” began when Confederate forces attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The War Between the States “ended” when General Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia on April 9, 1865, at the McLean House in the village of Appomattox Court House.

Middle Ages and the Renaissance

  • The Middle Ages was a period of European history from the 5th century to the 15th century. It generally follows the fall of the Western Roman Empire (476 ACE) and is preceeded by the Early Modern Era and the Renaissance Period. The Middle Ages are generally subdivideed into three intervals: Early Middle Ages (476 – 1000), the High Middle Ages (1000 – 1300) and the Late Middle Ages (1300 – 1453/1492). This gallery will also include the European Renaissance Movement (14th through 17th centuries), Pirates (the golden age being from the 1650s to the 1720s) and the activities of the Society for Creative Anachronisms.

Miscellanea

  • This section includes all living history and re-enactment events which are not in the other “eras.” This includes: the Old West, Native American Pow Wows, Mountain Men Rendezvous, Victoriana, etc.

Soldados, Californios and the Mexican American War

  • This “era” looks at the control of the Southwest United States and California under Spanish control which spans the mid-16th century to 1821. Mexico held the region after their War of Independence until the aftermat of the Mexican American War in 1848. California is the focus for this War and includes the antecedents as well as the battles.

Timeline Events

  • The Timeline Events are re-enactments where multiple “eras” join together under one venue. These are the places to go to in order to view seldom seen groups. These events include: Civil War, Pirates, Vikings, Men in Armor, Spanish American War, Roman Legions, the Wild West and more. The two leading venues in Southern California are Old Fort MacArthur Days and Marching Through History Expo.
